About Me
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Duncan Mullins. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, I’ve been in the music business since 1981. After graduating from Belmont College with a music business degree I hit the road, playing bass and recording with Jerry Reed, Crystal Gayle, Amy Grant, Steve Wariner, and Richard Marx. Along the way I began doing more and more studio work in Nashville, eventually leaving the road to pursue the recording world full-time in 1990. Since then I’ve played on literally thousands of recording sessions of every musical style imaginable. I bring every bit of my experience to bear in my work – you can be sure I’ll “do the right thing” on your project. I take great care to make sure my custom online bass tracks are dead-on in terms of taste, time, and tone. In a recording center like Nashville, if you don’t come up with a great bass part and nail it quickly, you don’t get called back! I’ve created this site to make it easy for anyone, anywhere to have access to a professional online bass track at a reasonable cost.
About Tone
To me, bass isn’t ever “just bass”. There are so many tonal palettes that can be brought out of a single instrument, yet a professional bassist should have a selection of instruments to fit any style – anywhere from old-school funk to modern alt-rock to country. I have many to choose from, plus all the gear I need to tailor the signal as needed. Here’s a partial list of the stuff I use daily:
- Sadowsky Ultra Vintage 5-string
- Bluesman Vintage DeVille P-Bass
- 1968 Fender Precision
- 1976 Fender Jazz
- 1979 Music Man Stingray
- Music Man Big Al 5-string
- 1984 Fender P-J 4-string
- 1980 Yamaha BB2000 Prototype
- Lakland Joe Osborn 5-string
- Line 6 Variax 5-string
- Azola Jazzman 5-string Hollowbody Fretless
- Aria Pro-II Fretless 4-string
Some of the gear I use:
- Neve 1272 Mic Pre (original, not parts)
- Ampeg SVT Mic Pre
- Neve EQ
- Tubetech CL-1A Compressor
- Dbx 160x Compressor (a classic!)
- Line Six POD XT Pro
- 1964 Ampeg B-15 Fliptop Amp (all original)
- An ever-changing variety of effects
- Various Pro Tools Plugins
I use and proudly endorse D'addario strings.
